As I recollect those thoughts, I smiled even more and asked David the
same question…
“Because I love
God,” he responded.
That’s it David.
That’s the whole point of service.
We
don’t do it for people because time and again they would fail us.
- We
are always distracted by the need for appraisal
- We
are entangled in the honour men give us
- We
wait eagerly to have someone commend us for the work we have done
When it doesn’t come, we get frustrated and want to stop our service
altogether.
Like my Sunday School kid, David, I failed to realise the whole point of
our service.
“We
should do all we do because we love God”
For
do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased
men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Galatians
1:10
Maybe
you are upset, about not receiving a “Thank you” for your kind
gesture.
Or you are upset that your kindness had gone unnoticed.
I am quick to remind you of this scripture:
And
let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint
not.
Galatians
6:9

Line:
In this season, don’t take out the whole point of the season.
The whole point of the season is to serve others with love. With this
same love, Christ has showered upon us and made us His children.
It is the Love we have for the Lord that makes us continue even when we
don’t get appreciated.
It is the love we have for the Lord that allows us to share the gospel
through our kindness and good works.

You may not get a kind gesture in return.
Got you! I know this is sad even Jesus had experienced the same thing.
He healed the 10 lepers and only one returned to say thanks (Luke 17:17).

God’s Commendation is worth more.
Whether or
not you receive a thank you, God’s commendation is more important than any “thank you,”people say to you.
For
not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Service requires you bend over in humility.
Every time you bend over in service, you learn humility.
It takes a humble heart to serve others. Even though you are despised,
humility is what makes you do it over and again. Like Moses, several times his
patience was tested yet He remained meek (Numbers 12:3)

Service is hard and Jesus knows that.
That is the reason if we must be the greatest in God’s kingdom we can
only do so through serving others (Matthew 23:11)
If you must be the greatest you must serve the most!

Service requires hard work and God knows we can easily get tired.
But He encourages us to continue and not faint (Galatians 6:9)

Patience is a virtue you require in the place of service.
Service is hard and many times people or situations will push you over
the edge.

are learning to give more grace rather than criticism in the place of service.
The more you serve the more you drown yourself in God’s grace and are
able to give that same grace to others
Let me draw our
attention to the whole point of our serving others.
It is
because ‘We love God’ we do everything for His glory
alone.
As we go on
in this season, let us not forget the whole point of our service, “Because
We Love the Lord”
