How to Work Well with Small Women Groups

Are you starting out as a Women’s Ministry Speaker?
Are you struggling with speaking within your group?

I had a splendid weekend ministering at a couples retreat. My friend, Keke Stephen, invited to their couples’ conference as one of the key note speakers for the wives.

The ladies were eager and hungry for God’s Word. I spoke on “Embracing the different Hats of a Christian Woman”.

We all carry several portfolios in one personality. Different Hats signify our different and complex roles as women.

Juggling to wear these different hats can be an enormous task if we are to carry out all our roles and not lose ourselves in the process.

Boy! We are strong Women of God.

Ok, I am not sharing about our discussion at the retreat here.

This article addresses the benefits and preparations of speaking or leading small groups.
What are the benefits of working with small groups as a speaker or leader?
What approaches can you adopt in preparing for a Speaking Engagement?

The Stephens gave me a rare privilege to access and analyse the benefits of working with smaller groups as a speaker for which I am grateful.

Benefits of Speaking/Leading in Small Women Groups
·         Connecting individually with participants. It is easy to connect with your listeners and successfully figure out their challenges. One of the tasks of the Women Ministry, is to allow God use us pour our hearts into fellow women in God’s way.

Every woman listening to you has expectations and until these expectations are met they are not going to be satisfied

·         Setting up small work tasks. It is easy to commence work schedule and small tasks within a limited time frame for instance, getting participants to write a reflective article, mission statements etc.

·         Connective Prayer. I love this opportunity for group members to pray for one another. Prayer chains and small fellowships can be started and easily followed up. Great isn’t it?

·        Teaching Aids. As a Woman leader or speaker you have the rare privilege of using your own schematics for the progress of your discussion. Printouts work well too!

·         Effective Bible Study. You have an awesome privilege of carrying out an in-depth Bible study within your group.

Six Simple Steps to Prepare for an Effective a small group Ministration
Prayerfully seek God’s face concerning the meeting.  The Holy Spirit will guide you into what is needed. The place of prayer should never be ignored when preparing for a ministration.

Study God’s Word deeply. Especially around your given speaking area do effective bible study.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Write your Speaking Notes. Journaling and preparing work notes as the Holy Spirit guides you is mandatory. You may delve out of your writing, but it helps you stay on track on what is required.

Don’t rely on eloquence but on the Holy Spirit. The key to successfully imparting your listeners lies in praying and studying God’s word rather than your brilliance or eloquence at the podium or stage.

I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Psalm 81:10

It is a gift to have a way with words while speaking

Note you may speak so well and your hearers as carried away with your finesse or words rather than be blessed with what God is saying for their lives.
So don’t get rely on ‘you’ but on Jesus whom you represent.

Exhaust the core of your discussion. Spend time on the majors so you would have covered what is most important. If your time runs out you and your group members will be satisfied.

Allow time for feed backs. This provides an analysis of your group’s progress. Also important, schedule appropriate time for questions and comments from participants.
