As women we
often think that we have to have it all together. We visit a friend and see her
perfectly clean house and feel inadequate because our house looks like a tiny 4
year old tornado whizzed through.
We see a woman
in the grocery store with perfect hair and perfectly clean clothes and look
down at our blouse with baby spit up while our hair is in a messy bun.
We see women
pinning delicious recipes and effective workouts on Pinterest and feel like we
are less than because there is no way we could make that meal and why bother to
exercise when a bag of Doritos is sitting there.
Women
are continually measuring up to each other.
For we dare not
make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend
themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing
themselves among themselves, are not wise.
2 Corinthians 10:12
We see others
who seem to be perfect and feel like a failure because we are so far from
perfect. So we put on this
mask so that the world thinks we have it all together.
Recently a
friend told me a story that another friend shared with her. This lady held a
Bible study in her home. Before the Bible study she would take all of the
“stuff” from around the house and shove it into a closet. Then the house would
be clean and ready for Bible study.
One day one of
the ladies who came to her study broke down in tears and shared how she could
never be good enough because her house will never be that clean. The
Bible study lady took her over to the “stuff” closet and showed her the truth. She vowed to never hide her “stuff” again.
Friends, we need to be real with one another.
We are all ordinary women who simply love God and want to do
extra ordinary things for Him.
It’s time to take off the mask and be real as we teach
and mentor each other to be extra ordinary for God.
