Everyone wants
to be a winner in life; the best, number one, the owner of the crown. Somehow, the worldly system drives us to
believe that only first place is the winner and that competition is good and healthy
and creates a sense of commitment in participants.
However, for our
Christian life, this theory is not a healthy one.
For we
dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they
measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves,
are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12
I believe that
I AM already a winner, and so are You.
Constantly comparing
yourself to other people will result in you undermining your accomplishments
and possibly slowing yourself down.
God created us
winners.
God intended
for us to live a fulfilled life and lacking nothing.
I once presented
a workshop titled, unwrapping the gift. Like
I shared in the workshop,
The gift is YOU.
You are a gift to this world.
You matter.
You have a specific, predestined God’s-given purpose to fulfill.
You are Beautiful, talented and blessed.
The gift wrap is Your LIFE.
All that you own, you are and are going through.
Just as when we
receive gifts, the wrap usually gives a hint of the present we expect.
When the wrap is
beautiful, we look forward to a nice gift.
And we unwrap the less attractive gift last. Well I think we all do same.
When I look at
people, I see them as GIFTs. This may be
the person’s accomplishments and or achievements but we may not like the
wrapping paper or gift bag (their journey or experiences).
The Bible
instructs us not to be envious of one another.
When envy kicks
in, we start competing with them and focus of our God given purpose; we focus
on their achievements and physically try to beat them.
This by no
means is ever healthy.
No two
people’s journey will ever be the same, because our purpose is different. No
two people’s process is the same, although at times they may be facing similar
challenges or situations. Based on our
beliefs, skills and life experiences we will differ.
God has
instructed us to live quiet lives, minding our own business.
And that
ye study to be quiet, and to do your
own business, and to work with your
own hands, as we commanded you; 1 Thessalonians 4:11
You become
frustrated and irritated if you don’t achieve results, because your desire to
achieve is based on another person’s life.
You become
drained emotionally, physically and spiritually, trying to live someone else’s
life.
God never
intended for us to compete with anyone.
No matter how
insignificant your accomplishments may seem, if God ordained, they will impact
and impart where intended by God. Jeremiah 29:11
I encourage you
to compete with yourselves.
BEAT YOUR OWN
RECORDS.
Aspire to be
greater today, then you were yesterday.
There is room
for improvement and room to improve YOU.
Never shy away from learning.
Remember that
you will never ARRIVE.
As long as you
travelling this beautiful journey of your life, you will fall, get up, learn,
be taught, and face many trials. The
greatest reward is knowing that God promises that our trials are for the
testing of our faith and for the building of character. Our character is built through perseverance.
Proof that we have persevered is seen in our maturity.
Remember,
The most important
thing in life is not in your past but your future.
When we learn
to compete with ourselves, constantly improving to become more Christ like, we
set ourselves up for greatness.
God promises
us that when we mature we will receive the crown of glory that He has promised
us. Aspire to be better than you were
yesterday, every day.
You are
already equipped for this journey that lies ahead.
Your journey
is unique.
The answers to
all your questions are found in God’s Word and not in someone else’s journey.
Look within you.
If you are in
Him and He is in you then you are all that He is.
You are already
a winner.
