Searching for a job all the year
round, I made numerous unfruitful calls, written endless emails and submitted
several resumes without responses. At that moment in my life, I was battling
with negative thoughts of failures and stagnation.
What a frustrating experience when you
have toiled and have nothing to show for it.
Unfortunately my expectations where
tilted towards negativity because of previous No’s in my life.
Are you at this point when you have
tried everything and nothing seems to be working?
God is always there.
What? Yes!
The sooner I realised God had other
plans for me the calmer I became.
I had been seeking my own plans and
not His.
In my anguish I cried out, “What now
Lord?”
What
do you want from me?
You see that is the question I should
have been asking and not “Why Lord?”
To discover what God has for us starts with rooting out negativity and
unproductive thoughts.
Above all else, guard your heart, for
everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4: 23 (NIV)
Our negative thoughts are toxic to our
spiritual and physical well being. How?
We
are not far from our thoughts and we begin to walk according to our thought
life.
Everything around our lives
responds to our thoughts.
Here is a fine acronym to help us “detox”
our thoughts daily.
-
De contaminate
unhealthy thoughts by sharply rebuking
them and confessing the very opposite of our negative thoughts. The enemy’s
strategy is to sow negative thoughts we nourish those thoughts through dwelling
deeply on them and flourish them unfortunately by confessing negativity. Remember this, "As a
man thinks in his heart, so is he".
-
Enrich your mind with
God’s Words. There are several promises
hidden in the scriptures. When we search them out and meditate on them, we give
room for God’s words to grow and yield fruit in our lives. Joshua 1:8
-
Thankful thoughts
terminate Bitterness. There is always
something to be grateful for. We are not hopeless and should never wallow in
grief and disbelief. We can dispel our feelings of hopelessness through thankfulness.
-
Overcome Worry.
Worry and anxiety can be overcome by growing our faith and not our fears. Fear,
unbelief and doubt will produce a worried, anxious and weary heart. When we are
joyful, our hearts come to rest. Our rest comes when we fix our hearts on Him. Isaiah 26:3 God has assured us He will care for us Matthew 6:33.
-
Xamine the causes of
negative behaviours and root them out!
There are some friends and places that encourage our negative thoughts. We need
to identify negative influences in our lives an avoid them.
