I woke up at 6am this morning and I slowly
approached the door. You won’t believe what happened next. I saw myself lying
on the floor with my husband squatting next to me and calling out my name.
Initially I was lost in thoughts and trying to make sense of what had occurred.
Are you all right? Did you bump somewhere? Are you
hurt? What happened? On and on the questions rolled in.
“I don’t know” was my response.
As he helped me up, I felt pain from the left side
of my head. He noticed it was a swelling. I probably hit my head on the
wardrobe. He massaged it in so it would go down quickly.
Guess what?
I passed out! Literally Passed Out!
I had a very tight schedule the week before.
Barely had enough sleep and now there I was lying on the floor some days later.
Now I am on an academic break, I figured out I
could do some writing within a specified time frame. But today, I realise I
need to slow down on my work schedules.
Don’t you think you need to take a
break and rest?
I
mean just do nothing; lie on the bed, watch the birds,
read a novel, walk in the garden whatever eases that stress limit.
Four Reasons why your
Body needs to Rest
1. Your body signals you when you need to rest. When
you struggle to have enough time to sleep, or you feel dizzy a lot these days
or you are losing concentration, your body can only accommodate this much.
God rested so you need to. God had worked for six
days non-stop and figured he needed to rest. We go for much longer and don’t
get our bodies to pause.
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he
rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Genesis 2:2
2. You will do better after a break. You may feel
so much pressure to do a lot work but remember when your mind is rested, your
performance is better. Try taking at least ten minutes break within two hours
of work-stretch.
3. Think of it this way, you are running low on
gas and you keep working your car. You have to pull over at the garage and
refill your tank. Else you will grind your car to a halt.
Spiritually, it is
needful to take time off and spend quality time alone with God. You feel
refreshed and your deleted energy would be restored.
Come unto me, all ye
that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
4. Be alive for those who love and care about you.
We always think if we don’t do this work no one else will.
Truthfully, if you
drop dead today, life continues.
As hard as it is, remember, you need to keep well
and be alive for your family and friends and work never seems to get finished
or ends.
Jesus encouraged his disciples to find a secluded
place and rest.
And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place,
and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure
so much as to eat.
Mark 6:31
How about you, have you figured out a way to get
rested?
Do you always feel you need to keep doing all the work and don’t get
enough rest?
Prayer: May we enter into His rest from all our labour in Jesus
Name.
