No matter how much we
dress up like our favorite soccer stars, we are never going play on the field
in their place. Just because you are an addicted fan does not give you the
licence to play as a player on the field during a game. All fans have their seats
and are hardly distinguishable.
On the contrary, the players are
easily identified because they stand out. There is a lot of
work that goes into being a sports star. All the hard work, training sessions
and sacrifices pays off, when they become "branded super stars".
Another example, is a wedding ceremony. The celebrants are the center of attention and attraction. They are adorned differently so you spot them out easily.
Same goes for our Christian
walk. To stand out in the crowd, you must choose to be different. Being different involves a lot of hard work and dedication.
We all have the tendency to go along with what everyone thinks is right or what everyone
else is doing. Because everyone else is going with a trend, doesn't make it the right thing to do.
In a
bid to be to be yourself, you are likely to be an antagonist to general belief
systems.
Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in
a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
Exodus 23:2
It is OK when everyone don’t seem to
agree with you. It is simply because they don’t understand the way you do things.
Quick Question: "When you notice you are different because you are sticking to God's word for your life, do you join the crowd and get accepted into their circles?"
I call it a collective confusion of doing what “they”
think is right. “They”, the crowd, could be people at our offices, family or
even in our congregation.
Not because everyone does the same thing, doesn’t make whatever it is right except they are aligned with God's words.
Here are a few facts I
have observed when we choose to go along with the trend.
9
Drawbacks of Going Along With The Crowd
1. You
stop thinking for yourself.
2. You
become a pawn tossed about
3. Your
voice is lost. You scream they can’t hear you because you are like them.
4. God’s
instructions for life works but the world thinks otherwise.
5. The
worldly trends are shallow lacking depth or purpose.
6. What!
It’s out of fashion already. Then you hop about for what is next.
7. It
is a rat race; it is never going to end, needless to say get to a destination.
So jump out of it.
8. You
go along with the crowd you get the same results they get, nothing different.
9. You
lose “your personality”, “your flavor”, and your “you-factor”.
To be yourself in Christ:
- Be totally convinced
about what the Bible says you should do.
- Let the Holy Spirit guide you when making decisions.
- Don’t be
swayed by common world beliefs which are contrary in every sense to the
scriptures.
- I want to be different because and only
because I love God. How about you?
