Godliness

……….and to patience, godliness;……….

Living a holy life

God has called us to live a godly life. Godly life is a holy life, a life of righteousness. Godliness is being covered with the cloak of righteousness that Jesus has given us. When you love God, your life serves as living a living proof.
The Apostles were called Christians because their lives were likened to that of Jesus. They did not need to tell people they had been with Jesus; the people saw it in them. Our lives are the living bibles people read whether we choose to believe it or not. A godly person fears God.

1Thessalonians 4:7  For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Filthiness can keep us away from God. The devil has all the access into our lives when he smells our filth.

Zechariah 3:1-4  And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.   And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?  Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.  And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment

Joshua was a priest, but the devil withstood him. He had on him filthy garments. There were issues in his life God had to deal with, iniquity. When God does not hear your prayers your iniquity may be hindering him from doing so (Proverbs 28:13). In all our conversation, we should be holy.

1Peter 1:14-16  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

A Godly man is hard to come by. It is not easy to live a Godly life. Circumstances come to distract us from living the life God has called us to live. But by God’s grace we will overcome.

Psalm 12:1  Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

2Timothy 3:12  Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

God has given you His grace to live a godly life in this present world.

Titus 2:11-12  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

As new creatures in Christ we don’t carry on with our lives as we used to. There is a change that comes from our spirit man. As the Holy Spirit does his work in our lives we live as God expects us to.

Ephesians 4:22-24  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;   And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

4.  You will see God.

5.  When you are godly and content, it is a great gain.
1Timothy 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

6.  Good knows your way.
Psalms 1:6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
